Towards Sustainable and Green Bharat

by
O/o PSA Communications Team
  • Biomanufacturing and Biofoundries to support green growth has been announced by the Hon’ble Finance Minister in today’s budget speech in line with Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision on Vikshit Bharat by 2047.
  • Bharat is competitively positioned to be amongst the global leaders in futuristic manufacturing that leverages living systems. Biomanufacturing can fundamentally transform the global economy from today’s consumptive manufacturing paradigm to the one based on regenerative principles.
  • Biomanufacturing are versatile processes that have the potential to create bio-based products allowing efficient utilization of resources, in a scalable cost-effective manner with reduced environmental impact. ‘मूलांकुर’ Bio-Enablers will augment biomanufacturing activities. The ‘Bio-Artificial Intelligence (AI) Hubs’ will stimulate discovery research across various sectors while ‘Biomanufacturing Hubs will establish facilities for pilot-scale and pre-commercial scale translation.
  • Biomanufacturing can be utilized to produce biodegradable polymers, which naturally decompose over time and have a smaller overall environmental impact. Further, new materials made from waste plastic through biotechnology routes may be produced to mitigate plastic pollution.
  • The historical announcement will facilitate to achieve the major goal for green, clean, prosperous and self-reliant India (Bio Tech Apnao Hara Dhan Pao). This will provide a framework to empower Indian institutions, Startups and industries to engage in transformative innovations by:
    • Intensifying research, innovation, and entrepreneurship;
    • Boosting domestic biomanufacturing capability by enabling synergy between science, technology, engineering and manufacturing;
    • Accelerating transition to biomanufacturing by promoting integrated use of artificial intelligence (AI) and digitalization with omics and upstream biotechnology innovations;
    • Setting up मूलांकुर Bio-enabler facilities for scaling-up and pre-commercial manufacturing for fostering high performance biomanufacturing; and
    • Nurturing cohort of highly skilled workforce
  • An integrated Biomanufacturing approach will create innovative solutions for fostering the growth of Bioeconomy by facilitating scale up and commercialization of biobased products; reducing, reusing, recycling of waster material and intensify enterpreneural momentum.
