The Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India extends its heartfelt congratulations to all four Indian students for winning medals at the 37th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) 2026, held in Vilnius, Lithuania. 🥇 Bhavyaa Gunwal (Mahendragarh, Haryana) - Gold Medal 🥈 Soumil Maity (Howrah, West Bengal) - Silver Medal 🥈 Nishit Kalani (Pali, Rajasthan) - Silver Medal 🥈 Anmol Kumar (Mansa, Punjab) - Silver Medal The 37th IBO 2026 saw participation from 307 students representing 78 countries. The competition included practical laboratory tests and theoretical assessments covering areas such as Molecular Biology & Biochemistry, Animal Physiology, Animal Morphology & Systematics, and Plant Computational Biology. A total of 31 Gold, 61 Silver, and 91 Bronze Medals were awarded to participants. Congratulations to the students, mentors Dr Anupama Ronad (Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), TIFR) and Dr Rekha Vartak (formerly Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), TIFR), and scientific observers Dr Ranjit Singh Devkar (The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda) and Dr Siddhesh Ghag (UM-DAE Centre For Excellence In Basic Sciences). Appreciation to the HBCSE Biology Cell team, the ATBS and IAPT teacher organisations, and the nationwide network of resource persons for their support in the selection and training of the Indian team.
