The Office of Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India is contributing towards building a comprehensive ecosystem for India's deep tech innovation. Deep tech comprises cutting-edge, science‑ and engineering‑driven technologies that have the potential to redefine industries, strengthen national security, and advance strategic independence. As India transitions from a technology consumer to a global “Product Nation”, there has been a growing emphasis on deep tech, with startups emerging as key agents of frontier innovation and a knowledge-driven economy. Aligning with this vision, the Office has laid the foundation for India's Deep Tech ecosystem through recommendations on: → Dedicated Deep Tech startup definition: To establish a clear, standardised definition that will enable targeted support and regulatory measures to startup ventures. → Specialized Fund of Funds: Thematically focused funds such as Startup India Fund of Funds 2.0 with a corpus of ₹10,000 crore to support the startups. → Stronger intellectual property protection: The IP and Patent framework aims to improve clarity, consistency, and predictability while aligning India’s patent practices with global standards. → Faster commercialisation of research: Clear guidelines to translate publicly funded research into market-ready solutions. → Regulatory sandboxes: Sector-specific sandboxes to enable safe testing, participatory consultations, and standards development. → National talent pipeline: To build a national network of scientists, researchers, experts; support upskilling; and offering grants to make deep tech careers more viable. Through these steps, the Office is contributing towards building the foundation for India's Deep Tech future, driving innovation, strengthening national capability, and positioning India as a global technology leader.
