India’s deep-tech journey is picking up pace in a very encouraging way. When the National Quantum Mission was launched in 2023 under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, we had set ourselves clear long term goals. It’s satisfying to see that we’ve already achieved 1,000 km of secure quantum communication in less than three years, much earlier than expected. It’s a strong sign that our scientific ecosystem is moving with both speed and direction. What’s equally encouraging is the growth of startups in this space. In a short span, the number has grown from 8 to 17. These young teams are working on areas like disease detection using quantum biosensors, photon based technologies, positioning systems, atomic memory, and advanced electronic systems. It’s good to see innovation beginning to translate into real world applications. Alongside this, the recently launched ₹1 lakh crore Research Development and Innovation (RDI) Fund is seeing strong interest. The Technology Development Board has received over 100 proposals within just two months, reflecting the growing confidence of industry to invest and build in areas like 6G, advanced manufacturing, space, and biotechnology. In the longer run, these developments go much beyond individual achievements. Building capabilities in quantum technologies and deep-tech will strengthen India’s data security, communication infrastructure, healthcare systems, and strategic sectors. It will reduce dependence on external technologies and create a strong foundation for indigenous innovation. This is how India moves steadily towards becoming Aatmanirbhar in deep-tech, by nurturing its own talent, supporting its startups, and creating an ecosystem where ideas can grow into globally competitive solutions. There is a quiet but determined momentum building and it is here to stay.
