Forging and Nurturing Industry – Academic Linkages
In the era of globalization Industry-Academia linkages have become significant to generate industrially relevant knowledge at affordable cost. The current level of industry–University/academia/R&D institutions linkages in India has to go a long way to work in tandem. There are several institutional bottlenecks in forging such relationships and these obstacles need to be overcome in the larger interest of the nation and competitiveness of the Indian industry in the global arena. Whilst the PPP programmes is one such measure to enhance such interactions, these need to be multiplied in many more ways.
Office of PSA to GoI is in the process to constitute a committee for identifying various industry – academic linkage models through wider consultation and pilot test some of their applicability in Indian conditions to different industrial sectors and companysizes. R&D programme to encourage ‘Directed Research’ is also being developed. This programme supports industry – Academia / research institution linkage projects in all fields that aims to expand the knowledge of the industrial processes, understand know-why, improvements in industrial processes and generally address the applied research concerns of the industry. These measures, besides enhancing the industry–academia interaction, will promote industry oriented applied research in Indian R&D and academic institutions.
